Capricorn is pleased to offer a competency-based, hybrid Basic Dysrhythmia Interpretation Course. This course is developed with the educational best practices of blended learning and flipped classroom approaches, the first in Northern Nevada. While traditional dysrhythmia interpretation courses require 3 full days in class, this course covers the same material with much greater flexibility.
Topics include:
- Anatomy and physiology of the heart
- Electrophysiology dysrhythmia interpretation
- Waveforms, intervals, segments, and complexes
- Cardiac monitors
- Analyzing a rhythm strip
- Sinus dysrhythmias
- Junctional arrhythmia
- Atrial dysrhythmias
- Junctional arrhythmias and AV blocks
- Ventricular arrhythmias and bundle-branch blocks
- Pacemakers
- Comprehensive review/ Exam prep
Participants work through several modules of preparatory work, which they complete on their own time before attending the eight-hour live class held at a location of your convenience. These modules follow a text and include video lecture, practice strips, and links to You Tube practice. Each module has a short quiz. There is a final quiz one must pass prior to arriving at the live course.
During the eight-hour class, we move through the dysrhythmias using lecture, videos, games, and practice strips, one-on-one guidance, and group discussion. There is strong emphasis on the use of resources and critical thinking. After class, the participants have ten days to study independently and take the final exam. One-on-one tutoring or remediation is available for each participant, if requested.
Sherry, Capricorn’s lead instructor, is master’s prepared in nursing education and has 24 years of telemetry monitoring experience. Board-certified in nursing professional development and emergency nursing, she has been teaching a hospital-based dysrhythmia review course for the past seven years. This course offers 20 contact hours under the NV State Board of Nursing (provider #807). Only eight of these hours require your staff to come off schedule and have their butt in a seat!
Here’s what past participants are saying:
“I thought this class was great. With it being hybrid I was able to have time to study the rhythms that were more difficult for me to understand.”
“I really like the hybrid class and I think it should be used more.”
